Girl Talk PHX: At what age did you know, and what occurrence or experience happened that you knew you are an artist?

‘I suppose I was around 10 years old. My English teacher introduced us to poetry and I was hooked. I spent the next couple of decades writing, dancing and doing theatre. It was only a few years ago that I realized I also had a talent for visual arts, and started exploring painting and drawing seriously.’

GTP: What's is your current inspiration or your muse at Alchemy Studios & how do you find your inspiration?

“I have an official muse that I work with regularly. She has been a huge catalyst for the work I’m producing now. But I also find moments of inspiration everywhere. Film and music are an obvious source, but I find that the simple pleasures of mundane life, and connecting with everyday people has a lot to offer in that respect as well.”

GTP: How do you feel art ties into community, and connecting people?

“Art has so many facets and ways it can be expressed. It can reflect what’s going on in the world and therefore unify people to work towards a common cause. Art is therapeutic, and making art in community is incredibly healing. Art also speaks to shared emotional experiences that we all go through. So it helps to bridge the gap of isolation that people often feel inside their own lives.”

GTP: How has Girl Talk impacted your business and/or your personal growth in your community?

“Girl Talk has been invaluable to me in both my personal and business growth. I’ve gained so much clarity and confidence in the direction of my artistic work, as well as feeling so much more supported in moving forward in my business. Having a solid group of women who both understand what I’m going through and that have the resources to help uplift me and keep me accountable has been a game changer.”
